The registration system will soon be live on the site, letting you register (as player or staff) for the first 2 events! With that in mind, here are a few details about how it will work:
Pricing: we use a somewhat novel "pay what you can" model. The default event price for a player is $100, but you can adjust that up or down, in $20 increments, to as low as $20 or as high as $180. This means that it's way easier for players of less means to play, etc. (And, if you choose to pay more than the default, think of it as covering the tab for folks who can't afford a full event price.) We think this could be a big deal.
Also note, the event price includes food for the weekend.
To quote the rulebook: "All players, regardless of event price, will be treated equally and fairly by staff — you will not get special treatment or favor for any price."
There is also a "$20 paid at door" option, which means you will only pay $20, by bringing cash to the event and handing it to us at checkin. This is for folks for whom electronic payment is a hardship; please don't abuse this to silenty get around the refund deadline (see below).
Staff: Staff can register for free. Anyone with an account can register as staff: if you are intending to be a player, please get permission first. If you are intending to come crunch or help out, go right ahead! We feed staff, too.
We very much want our staff to register, so we can know how many people will be there (for food purposes, etc.). Please create an account and register!
Characters: to register as a player, you need to have a character. This character can be a walk-on or not, can be a brand-new placeholder with a placeholder name (you can write more and change their name later), or can be a fully finalized character with a fully finalized background...but they need to exist. Starting a character takes just a few seconds. (You'll also need to have created an account on the site, of course.)
Checkin/Checkout Notes: when you register (player or staff), you can fill out a "checkin/checkout notes" textbox (and you'll be able to edit it later). At registration time, this an easy way to tell us things like "I won't arrive until midnight on Friday." At checkin, staff will also use it to record things like "borrowed a sword from staff at checkin," and at checkout, things like "turned in a 'golden orb' stickered item at checkout."
Staff can use this to indicate to which game they'd like cast-swap credit to go.
Hidden From Event Character List: if you are logged in, you can see a list of PCs (character names only) who are attending the event. If you register as a player, you can keep your character name off that list with a checkbox. You can even change the setting later.
Cancellations and Refunds: If you, sadly, register but end up unable to come, you can cancel your registration, so we'll know. If it is still more than a week from the event start, you can even get a refund — and that refund can be anywhere from a full refund to nothing (in $20 increments). You might take a partial refund because you still want to cover the tab for someone of lesser means... Once the event is a week away or less, you can still cancel, but not get a refund (we've already accounted for you in food counts and such).
Incentives: after registration opens, we'll also post a list of incentives for you to register for these first events, and recruit your friends!
To see it, you probably need to reload the page, to get the latest fronted code in your cache.
Reminders: to register, you'll need to create a site account (this is pretty fast, but needs an email that won't spamfilter the confirmation link). For a player, you also need a character (any character, however placeholder, will do).
Also, we very much want people who intend to come staff/crunch to register. This is free, and doesn't require a character, but does require an account.
