**Founding and Geography:**

Established as one of the first Lighthouses in the [Castine Bay](wiki:Castine-Bay), right by the greater mouth out to the [Thamasan Ocean](wiki:Thamasan-Ocean), The Coral Castle Lighthouse was constructed and is currently maintained by the Gaolund Navy. Construction took nearly five years to complete, giving the locations remote location and the larger size of the lighthouse than most in the [Castine Bay](wiki:Castine-Bay). The Coral Castle Lighthouse was built with the intention of steering ships away from the nearby dangerous coral reefs. Although not built on or with materials gathered from the nearby coral reefs, the structure gets its name from the reefs it’s meant to ward ships from. The lighthouse is operated by a team of three lighthouse keepers who serve two months at a time and rotate with a second team of three keepers. The building is able to hold supplies for up to three months on the chance that storms and other setbacks keep the rotation from happening on time. The rocky island that the lighthouse is built on is just big enough to support the lighthouse compound itself as well as a small dock that allows small landing craft to ferry lighthouse keepers and supplies back and forth from the island to the supply vessel. Despite its remote location, it is a well known lighthouse by those who navigate the [Castine Bay](wiki:Castine-Bay).

**Incident and Investigation:**

During a rough storm in a particularly rough winter, a ship passing the Coral castle lighthouse noticed that the light was unlit. Because of the rough seas, the ship wasn’t able to get closer to investigate but made sure to notify a Gaolund naval vessel that it came across two days later. The Gaolund naval vessel traveled the two days to the lighthouse to investigate the matter. A small search team went ashore to find that all of the lighthouse keepers had gone missing without a trace and that the lighthouse had been unlit for some time. As the navy conducted its investigation, they came to find that the structure of the lighthouse had been completely undamaged and most of the lighthouse keepers personal effects were untouched. As the navy conducted a wider investigation, local fishermen reported dense clouds of [Spirit Fog](wiki:Spirit-Fog) That they saw form in the area and engulfed the lighthouse around the time it was reported that the light was out. The Navy concluded its investigation and determined that the [Spirit Fog](wiki:Spirit-Fog) was the cause of the disappearance without further leads to work off of. In the years after the incident, the Coral Castle Lighthouse became the center of many widely circulated rumors and conspiracy theories.

**Folklore and Mythology:**

Citizens from all over the [Castine Coastal Region](wiki:castine-coastal-region) now view the Coral Castle Lighthouse incident as one of the most well known incidents involving [Spirit Fog](wiki:Spirit-Fog) incursions. Given Gaolund’s distance from [The Great Shimmer](wiki:The-Great-Shimmer), the nation doesn’t typically deal with incidents of this nature. The only other notable incidents in the nation involving mass disappearances due to [Spirit Fog](wiki:Spirit-Fog) would be the [Dondella Pass Incident](wiki:Dondella-Pass-Incident) up in the [Doribatt Mountains](wiki:Doribatt-Mountains) near [Mount Corbreck](wiki:Mount-Corbreck), and the mass disappearance that befell the small town of [Auburn](wiki:Auburn). Since the Coral Castle Lighthouse incident, sailors and fishermen who navigate the [Castine Bay](wiki:Castine-Bay) have been wary of any reported [Spirit Fog](wiki:Spirit-Fog) banks and do their best to avoid them. The vast majority of citizens hang symbols of manta rays by their homes as symbols of protection to ward off the [Spirit Fog](wiki:Spirit-Fog) and tell stories of their own personal run ins with strange incidents on the water. Some of the citizens of the region maintain that all these incidents are not actually caused by [Spirit Fog](wiki:Spirit-Fog) and maintain mostly unproven and discredited conspiracy theories about the incidents that range from monsters in the night to government led experiments and cover ups.
