The Lumber Mafia is an organization with many ties across the different city-states of Lodogo, though its influence is strongest on the western side of the Confederation's forested region. It's believed to have formed during the Nonovigan expansion as one of the mutual defense pacts common to the time period. As that era drew to a close, the three towns involved in the pact turned their attention to local industry, forging business connections and trading influence.

With sole access to certain rare trees, they were able to set their own terms and grow rich, and over time they built up a near-monopoly on sawmills. Any mill not directly owned by a lumber mafia member is expected to pay an extortionate rate for protection, or else risk their inventory catching fire, their employees falling injured or disappearing, and their funding supplies drying up.
