In 813, the Gnomali Republic dissolved after a 19-year-long civil war. A major region (between the Pilasti Mountains to the west and Lake Heios to the east) consolidated with a mutual-protection agreement, ultimately forming the nation of Lorthidad. The country has since been one of the most stable regions on the continent.
Lorthidad has exclusive access to several valuable deposits of rare metals in the Pilasti range and many gem deposits in the eastern hills, and over the centuries has become the continent’s chief supplier of gemsteel and other special materials. It is known as the home to the most skilled jewelers and (possibly) best arcanists in the land. It is quite wealthy, and quite isolationist. Though Lorthidad has not seen armed conflict in centuries, its military is famously well-funded and resilient, and its borders are nigh-unassailable.
The city of Lithidad, the capital in the west, is considered one of the wealthiest areas of Ihlathi. Lake Heios is ringed with resort towns that draw tourists from many lands (and also contain seasonal second homes for many of the richest people in Ihlathi). Manocasta University, in the north, is world-renowned for music, chemistry, and metallurgy.
